At the Trump Vineyard with JT Foxx

What an incredible two days I just had at the new Trump Vineyard in Charlottesville Virginia. My mom is a coaching student of JT Foxx of Mega Partnering fame and purchased a special package at his last big event, Mega Partnering V. Included in this package was two days of education and networking at the newly reopened Trump Vineyard with JT and none other than Eric Trump who happens to be a good friend of JT’s. Eric and JT arrived from New York on the helicopter with a couple other high powered mentoring clients of JT’s.

We all took pictures with the helicopter but some paid extra to get a tour of the vineyard on the helicopter, which mom did and thoroughly enjoyed every minute! Eric Trump was very giving of not only his dad’s helicopter, but more importantly his time. He was very nice, grounded and quite intelligent.  He spoke for well over an hour and shared some really interesting details about deals he participated in, both the good and the not so good. He answered just about every question that was posed to him and gave so many insights into running a successful business. One nugget that surprised me but makes complete sense is that the Trump organization operates with very little debt.  Back in the ’90’s when Donald Trump got into financial trouble and declared bankruptcy, he didn’t pack it in and get a day job. He assessed what went wrong and re-built his empire from the ground up without being over leveraged.  He’s bigger and better than ever and I think that’s a great lesson for entrepreneurs and Americans in general. We have been trained that we can have whatever we want as long as we have enough credit to buy stuff we can’t afford. This is such a dangerous approach to finance for a business and an individual. My husband and I have made a point to only make purchases that we can afford to pay off immediately, other than our house. This approach as served us well, enabling us to buy a house big enough for us and our two boys and for me to start my own business. Certainly sound advice for anyone, I think.

The other great outcome of the trip was all the terrific people I met. Everyone I came in contact with was incredibly nice, warm, intelligent and savvy. It was inspiring and motivating and came at just the right time, as these things tend to do.
